The language doesn't exist yet to describe (or even accurately categorize) what Sam Barlow is making. Which is probably why all our conversations, both during and after an exclusive set visit back in January, is a lot of uhm's as we both grasp for the right words, and come away with poor approximations that capture only a fraction of its ingenuity.
Barlow is adamant about it being, in fact, a video game — though it mostly consists of live-action actors who you get to know through videos on a desktop. Technically it's an FMV (full-motion video) game, but only as an afterthought. I guess it also falls under the umbrella of interactive TV, but don't even think about comparing it to Bandersnatch. My personal favorite way of referring to it is as "interactive found footage," like Blair Witch but detective and playable. Read more...
